Migration testing: a pillar of operational continuity

What is a migration test and why is it mandatory?

A migration test is a complete simulation of the transfer of data from a crowdfunding platform to an extinctive management provider. Its objective: to verify that the day the platform really ceases its activity, the changeover will take place without data loss and without interruption of service.

The European PSFP regulation requires platforms to demonstrate the viability of their continuity plan. Migration tests are the stage concrete proof. Without them, the extinctive management plan remains a theoretical document, unable to withstand the test of reality.

Frequency and regulatory framework

Best practices, in line with the recommendations of the AMF and the ACPR, recommend a frequency biannual for migration testing. This periodicity makes it possible to:

  • Quickly detect technical developments that could compromise the transfer
  • Validate the compatibility of data formats at regular intervals
  • Train teams in failover procedures
  • Produce an updated compliance report for regulators

The half-yearly frequency constitutes a balance between regulatory rigor and operational feasibility. It makes it possible to integrate the changes that have occurred in the platform's information system between two tests.

What's in a migration test?

Data extraction and transfer

The test starts with the complete extraction of critical data: borrower database, lender database, loan agreements, schedules, payment histories, KYC documents, supporting documents. This data is transferred to the provider's environment via secure channels.

Integrity check

Each data set transferred is subject to integrity checks : number of records, consistency of amounts, correspondence of schedules. The aim is to ensure that no information was altered or lost during the transfer.

Operational simulation

The test goes beyond simply transferring files. It simulates production: creation of borrower and lender spaces, generation of deadlines, calculation of interests. This simulation makes it possible to validate that the data is not only transferred but also exploitable by the fire extinguishing management system.

Report and action plan

Each test produces a detailed report identifying successes, anomalies detected, and corrective actions to be taken. This report is a valuable document for regulators during their checks.

The consequences of poor migration

A poorly prepared migration can have serious consequences:

  • Refund delays directly impacting lenders
  • Data loss making it impossible to follow up on certain contracts
  • Calculation errors on installments or interests
  • KYC compliance breach exposing the provider to regulatory risks
  • Sanctions from regulators up to and including the withdrawal of approval

The Runoff approach to migration testing

At Runoff, migration tests are carried out in a isolated production environment that reproduces real operating conditions. The technical expertise of Capsens, the parent company of Runoff and a recognized player in European fintech, guarantees a proven methodology and efficient control tools.

Each test is an opportunity to improve processes, identify points of friction, and increase the reliability of the device. It's an investment in peace of mind — for the platform, its investors and regulators.

A successful migration test ensures that the extinctive management plan is not a simple document, but an operational device ready to be activated at any time.
